200年后，人类具备了行星间的飞行动力，而木星、火星及各种卫星等所具有的丰富矿藏资源，势必引起新一轮掠夺。火星的独立，也与欧洲人在美洲的开拓如出一辙，是必然性的结果。
而小行星带人处于最弱势的地带，被塑造得比较可怜。
他们是地球在建设大道上的遗弃者，只不过在地球上的建筑工地，在太空中则成了苍穹遍野的各类行星空间站。
被抛弃的一方在空气与水资源都不足的情况下苟且偷生，也总想着必然而然的反击。

在200年后的未来，地球进入什么都缺连水都靠太空船运输的资源短缺时期。一位硬派的侦探叫米勒（托马斯·简饰），他被描述为“厌世者“，家乡是位于火星和木星之间的小行星带。
